Vic was born January 30, 1937, in Afton, Wyoming to Thomas L. (Hans) & Emma Lois (Herrick) Baker. He was one of eight children. Vic grew up in Paris, ID until 10th grade when the family moved to Gray’s Lake/Wayan area where he graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1956.

Vic married his high school sweetheart Juanita “Maxine” Hopkins soon after and moved to Conda where they raised their 3 children Ric, Alisa, and Angela. They later divorced in 1966. Vic married Alice Elizabeth “Beth” Stanger in November 1969. Together, they moved to Inkom where they raised Beth’s son James L. Grady and welcomed their daughter Marti Anne in December 1971. Vic and Beth loved the same things in life. You would always find them in the outdoors with their horses and cows, hunting and fishing or at horse shows and rodeos; Most of all, they were always, always with family. They were happily married until Beth passed away January 2, 1997.

Vic married Janet M Waters later that same year, adding her brother Steve Ozburn, sister Roxanne Mussulman and Janet’s children Bill and Janene and granddaughters, Ashley and Shante’ to the family;  All of whom he loved as his own and “step kids” was never in his vocabulary. He and Janet moved to Rupert in 2005 where they made their home for 16 years. You would always find Vic and Janet fishing at the local hotspots, at a good yard sale, estate sale, or with family and friends. Due to health reasons, Vic and Janet moved to Chubbuck in April 2021 to Grace Assisted Living where, of course, Vic made many more friends, and was also closer to family.

Throughout his life, Vic worked many jobs from making cheese with his dad at their cheese factory in Wayan, driving trucks for Kerr Magee in Soda Springs, working 27 years at UPFE on the refrigerated railroad cars, and for sure many more that we can’t name. Vic was the hardest working man around and we considered him the original “Mr. Fix It.” He could fix or build just about anything.

Vic passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024, in Chubbuck, Idaho surrounded by family. Vic is survived by his wife Janet M Baker of Chubbuck, ID; sister Phyllis Griffin of Ucon, ID; brother Tom E. Baker of Houston, TX; His children Alisa (Mike) Hymas of Chubbuck, ID; Angela (Eric) Ross of Fruitland, ID; Ric Baker of Warner Springs, CA; Marti (Robert) Ottley of Inkom, ID; James L Grady of Bainbridge Island, WA; Bill (Matthew) Waters of Gig Harbor, WA; and Janene Taylor of Meridian, ID as well as 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Vic was preceded in death by his parents Thomas L. (Hans) and Emma Lois (Herrick) Baker, sisters Cleone Cabutti, Geneal Dockstader, La Nea Baker and Sandra Housman, brother L.Dee Baker and brother in law Steve Ozburn.

At this time, Vic’s family would like to extend their gratitude, love and appreciation to Grace Assisted Living and his Enhabit Hospice team for their compassionate and dignified care for Vic until he passed. The family will have a memorial service in his honor at the First Baptist Church 421 H St, Rupert, ID 83350, on May 25, 2024, at 12:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home, 188  South Hwy 24 in Rupert.
