Eldon “Whitey” Adams passed away June 20, 2016 at his home in Albion, Idaho at the age of 77.  Eldon was born in Albion, Idaho on January 31, 1939 to Sterling and Ferl Adams.  He was the 9th of 14 children.  He graduated from Declo High School in 1957 where he played football, basketball and ran track.  He was tied with Bob Mahoney for having the most touchdowns.  That record stood for many years.  He competed in yodeling competitions but never told his children he could yodel until a week before his passing.  What a secret to keep!

After graduation, he moved to Arizona to live with his sister Rita and her husband Morris.  When he returned to Idaho he went to work for the Cassia County School District as a bus driver and then became the transportation supervisor.  In 1960, he was drafted into the United States Army.  He attended boot camp in California.  After training, he was sent to Korea where he was the top mechanic, working on all military vehicles.  He came home from Korea in 1963.  On August 30, 1965 he was appointed Sergeant E5 and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1967.  He returned to work for the Cassia County School District until 1968 when he began his career with the Burley Highway District.  He was the mechanic and also drove truck.  He retired after 38 years.  After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family.  He worked hard at raising his sheep, cattle and pigs on his family farm.  Everyone in the Albion Valley knew that their property and homes were safe when Whitey drove around and checked on all of them.  Everyone joked that he was the local Albion Sheriff.  In 1968 he married Jacqueline Dunthorn in Elko, Nevada.  They were married for 13 years and had two children, Eldon and Angel.  He then marred Sharon Yarbrough and they were later divorced.  He then met and married Sandy Newman and they were later divorced.

He is survived by his children, Eldon Henry (Melanie) Adams of Albion, Idaho and Angel M. (Brian) Adams Smith of Twin Falls, Idaho.  His grandchildren, Brandon Adams of Rupert, Idaho, Troy (Hailie) Adams of Heyburn, Idaho, Gunner Adams of Albion, Idaho, Randy M. Evans of Twin Falls, Idaho and Kellie R. Evans of Twin Falls, Idaho.  He has two great grandchildren, Cadyn A. MaKay of Twin Falls, Idaho and Diederick M. Evans of Twin Falls, Idaho; sisters, Ramona Sears of Rupert, Idaho and Emily Jane (Lynn) Wickel of Acequia, Idaho; brothers, Joe (Glenda) Adams of Paul, Idaho, Don (Carolyn) Adams of Paul, Idaho and Jay Adams of Montello, Nevada; a sister-in-law, Jeneal Adams of Albion, Idaho, a sister-in-law, Mardene Adams of Burley, Idaho and a brother-in-law, Morriss Rice of Oklahoma.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling and Ferl, brothers Sterling, Robert, Dick, Ray and a baby brother; sisters, Rhea Fay, Retta and a baby sister; his ex-wife Sharon Yarborough and a brother-in-law Wally Sears.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Nelson and his staff and everyone at Intermountain Home Health & Hospice for all the care and love they gave to our father.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Highway 24 in Rupert.  A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.   Burial will follow at the Latter-Day Saint Cemetery in Albion, Idaho.  Arrangements are under the care of Morrison Funeral Home in Rupert.
