NELL RICHARDSON TURNER

Nell Richardson Turner completed her earthly mission May 5, 2017, while living at Highland Estates Assisted Living Center in Burley, Idaho.

Nell was born in Declo, Idaho, September 6, 1923, the fifth child born to Samuel Blakemore and Jeannette Riggs Richardson. She attended school at Declo, graduating from Declo High School, May 1941. She then began her schooling at the School Of Hard Knocks. During WWII she worked for Remington Arms Company at Salt Lake City. This facility closed in the winter 1943. She then worked for the Ogden Army Depot, car-pooling to and from Salt Lake City. After being injured, she returned to Declo, on Father’s Day 1944, and began working for her father.

On October 16, 1944 she married her one and only sweetheart, Alma Blaine Turner. After Blaine was discharged from the army, she and dad made their home in Declo, later moving to the View area. They then moved to Burley in 1963. Blaine passed away in 1991.

Nell was not afraid of work. She has plowed fields, milked cows and driven potato trucks. She worked many years in the potato industry, mainly quality control at Ore-Ida Foods. Trying to show us kids how to get on the back of our pet cow, Mary; she jumped, banging her head on the top of the barn door, which caused back pain for the rest of her life.

Nell loved being with family. She spent summer weeks at Island Park, Yellowstone Park, the Stanley Basin area, fishing and traveling with Blaine. Nell devoted her life to Blaine, caring for him with his diabetes and health issues. They spent winters in Arizona, taking care of his medical needs. After Blaine’s passing, she found great joy attending family outings and ball games of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nell was a link between generations. Her sharp mind recalled many experiences in her life that she shared with her family.  This instilled a great respect in the grandchildren of the sacrifices her family made in building a life out of sagebrush covered land and serving their country in time of war.

Nell was taught self-sufficiency by her parents. Mom raised a garden until her late 80s, and shared her harvest with neighbors and family.

She enjoyed giving service to the sisters of the Relief Society, meeting the needs of many people with her compassionate service. In September 1992, she was sealed for time and all eternity to her husband Blaine, in the Logan, Utah Temple. She enjoyed attending the Twin Falls Temple often and taking others with her.

Nell is survived by her sons; Leslie Blaine (Coralea), Meridian, Idaho, Paul R (Janette), Burley, and Robert L (Beth), Idaho Falls. Four nieces: Marie (Bud) Fuller, Elaine Behr (Dave Moucatel), Beth (Lee) Cannon,  and Dorthy (Dick) Bicandi two nephews Revoir (Kathy) Fewkes, and Dick (Sharon) Fewkes. Fourteen grandchildren, Twenty-two great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren. Eight step grandchildren, twenty-nine step great-grand children, and two step great-great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her loving husband Blaine; her father and mother, Samuel and Jeannette Richardson; brothers Jasper, William (Bill), and Sam: sisters Lola Gummerson and Alta Penrod; a daughter-in-law, Marsha (Leslie) Turner; and grand daughters, Kimberly Lyn Turner Shaw, and Dawn Turner Fulton.

The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to the angels at Highland Estates for their compassionate loving care. We also appreciate the IHC hospice nurses and staff for their support and knowledgeable assistance.

My heartfelt condolences to your dear family on the passing of your mom and grandmother. Nell was always one of my favorites in the Turner clan. The world won't be quite the same without her sweet smile. I wish I could come to the funeral but there are conflicts we can't rearrange. Please know that we would love to come to support all of you at this challenging time.  With love, Sheri, Lorraine, Karen and Steve
