Eugenio "Junior" "Gene" M. Chapa, Sr., 77, of Rupert, Idaho, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2017 surrounded by loved ones.

He was born May 18th, 1940 in Caro, Michigan, the son of Eugenio and Matilda Martinez Chapa. He was the 10th of 11 children.

Gene married Olivia Faz on Dec. 29, 1962, in Uvalde, Texas. To this marriage they had four sons.

Gene was a self-employed truck driver, owning Chapa & Sons Trucking. He and three of his sons worked together for several years before his retirement. He was a self-taught musician and learned to play many musical instruments, including the 12-string guitar and bass guitar. For many years Gene and brother Daniel, performed for area crowds in their own band, Los Cascaveles.

After retiring from trucking, Gene could be found spending countless hours working on his prize possession show car, "Mr. Blvd.". He never met a stranger and loved to tell stories to anyone that wanted to listen.

Gene is survived by his wife, Olivia Chapa; four sons, Tony (Michelle) Chapa of Boise, Eugene Chapa, Jr of Paul, George (Karry) Chapa of Heyburn, and Sammy (Shanda) Chapa, Sr. of Paul; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Katrina, Andrew, Leetha, Sammy, Shelbie, Astynee, and Sophia; four great grandchildren, Marlee, Romeo, Maxon, and Ariella; and two sisters, Rosa Ramirez of Detroit, Mich. and Angela Bravo of Kaysville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held from 4:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24, Rupert, ID 83350.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Mini-Cassia Care Center, Highland Estates, Cassia Regional Medical Center, Intermountain Healthcare & Hospice, and Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
