Fred M. Thrall, 68 year old Alaska and former Burley resident passed away Friday, June 29, 2019 at Countryside Care Center in Rupert.

Fred was born December 8th, 1949 to Charlie and Winnie Thrall.  He served 4 years in the Air Force during the Vietnam era, receiving an honorable discharge.  He joined the IBEW in 1974, working 35+ years with the IBEW 1547 as a Power Lineman, retiring from Chugach Electric Association in 2009.

He met his wife Dorothy while working at MEA in Palmer, they were married June 29, 2001. Their good friend, Bill Sharlow, officiated at their Alaskan wedding on the banks of the Copper River, after they caught their subsistence limit of red salmon.

Fred was raised with a hard work ethic, and was well known in the Power Lineman trade for his drive to complete all jobs correctly and as neat as possible.  His friend Jeff Robison use to tell the young apprentice lineman at Chugach Electric, “young men pay attention to Fred, he might make you nuts with his need for organization, but when you’re out in a dark, howling windstorm at twenty below zero, and you are missing the one tool or part to finish the job, Fred will always have it on his truck”.

Fred enjoyed many happy years gardening, fishing, traveling in Alaska with Dorothy and building their dream house in Hawaii.  He suffered a serious stroke in 2011, spending his final years in an assisted living home in Idaho, close to his family.  He especially enjoyed pictures of his great nieces and nephews, visits with them were special, and he always shared his Jolly Ranchers with the little ones.

The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Estates for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him during his 6 years there, and also, most recently Countryside Care Home.

The Celebration of Life service will be held at Kimberly Christian Church, 3:00 pm July 3, 2018, please bring a potlock dish.  Also there is a bonfire/wake at the home of Ted Thrall.

Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Muth) Thrall, stepson Alan Moore, brothers Ted Thrall, Leon Thrall, Donald Thrall, sister-in-law Gloria Thrall, sisters Virginia Thrall and Monica (Thrall) Dickson, and brother in-law Kelly Dickson, Uncle Delbert and Aunt Ruth Thrall, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Winnie Thrall, Grandparents Edgar and Ida Thrall, Pauline and Ed Ward and niece Desirae Smith.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to www.fallenlineman.com in Fred Thrall’s name.  Cremation Services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home in Rupert.

Thoughts and prayers for the family.  Fred was one of those lineman that really paid attention to detail. He took pride in his work and it showed to those of us that interacted with him at Chugach Electric. He was part of a group of guys that never had to make excuses at the end of a work day about what they had accomplished. Fred knew all of the substations and what pieces of equipment needed to be checked.  Rest in peace.

Sorry to see you go so young, but I know you were in pain. I never will forget all the fun we had throughout our young years, whether we were skiing or playing or riding motorcycles. Memories that I will always treasure. Love you, Fred...see you again in heaven.
