After a short illness, Carol Hipwell Garner passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loving family on September 28, 2016. A Twin Falls resident, she was 79 years old.
Carol was born on December 17, 1936 in Ogden, Utah and lived most of her childhood in Wilson, Utah. After graduating from Weber High School, she married Del Berrett Garner, her high school sweetheart, on June 6, 1957 in the Logan LDS Temple. Carol and Del spent their early married life in North Ogden, Utah and Cache Valley, Utah. Ten years after getting married, Carol and Del moved to American Falls, Idaho and eventually to Raft River, Idaho to pursue their dream of owning and operating a farm and raising their children in a quiet rural environment. She and Del lived in Raft River for 42 years until moving to Twin Falls in 2013.
As Carol and Del raised their family, she emphasized the importance of family, faith, friends, knowledge, service, and fun with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of those who were fortunate to know her. She was passionate about pursuing dreams, interests, and talents, and was a champion of people who are less fortunate and in need of friendship and compassion. As a trained and certified EMT, Carol was one of the founding members of Raft River Rescue and was President and volunteer of the Pink Ladies at Cassia Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed painting, writing poetry, traveling, learning new technologies, and spending time with her large family.
Carol was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings. She went on three full-time LDS missions with Del over nearly 7 years. She served with Del when he was president of the Philippines Olongapo Mission, followed by a mission to the Historic Liberty Jail Visitors' Center and a mission to the New Zealand Wellington Mission. Carol also spent 5 years as an ordinance worker at the Logan LDS Temple and the past 3 years as Assistant to the Matron of the Twin Falls LDS Temple.
She is survived by her loving husband Del, daughter Cindy (Tony) Heber City, Utah, and sons, Mike (Toni) Raft River, Idaho, Blair (Julie), Ogden, Utah, Scott (Ali) Chicago, Illinois, and Jeff (Marla) Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (with three more on the way), and sisters Elaine Stauffer (Ogden, Utah) and Cleone Wall (Layton, Utah). She is preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Mary Hipwell, and brothers, Dee Hipwell and Grant Hipwell.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the Raft River Ward Building, 2551 East 300 South in Declo, Idaho with Bishop Michael D. Garner, officiating. Burial will follow in the Raft River Cemetery. Friends may call Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Twin Falls Stake Center, 2085 South Temple Drive in Twin Falls from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the Raft River Ward Building. Services are under the direction of Morrison Payne Funeral Home 321 East Main Street in Burley. Condolences may be left at morrisonpayne.com. I loved seeing Sister Garner's sweet smile at church each Sunday and in the temple. I often refer to her relief society lesson on temples. She will be missed.

Carol will be missed by all those that knew her. I met Carol and Del when they were serving their Mission in Taranaki, New Zealand. A wonderful lady that I was fortunate to have known. I will miss her but will always remain within my heart and look forward to seeing her once again when my turn comes to return home.

Carol was such a wonderful person. Throughout the entire time I was growing up, she was a constant presence of caring. I remember her coming to our house to take care of Mom when she was sick, or her keeping an eye out for a couple of small kids and just including us with her own children. There was nothing like a Carol Garner hug. I remember when I ran into her in the Logan Temple after my parents left Raft River, it was like I was 7 again as I saw her smile and gave her a hug. Carol was a terrific example of charity, compassion, and love for everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire extended Garner family.
Love, Jana Barrow

I will always remember the sweet times that I spent as a child in the home of Aunt Carol and Uncle Del and my cousins. Aunt Carol was always fun and kind and a friend to all. Thank you Carol and Del for your righteous example and love for all.

I have so enjoyed working with Sister Garner at the temple. She is such an angel and I love her sweet spirit. She is such an example for all those who come in contact with her. She has been an especially good example of how a wife loves and supports her husband. They are both exceptional people. Thanks for your example.
