Edyth Virginia Helms Mullen was born 10 September 1927 in Golden Valley, Idaho to Theodore Jackson Helms and Alice May Groves Helms. Virginia attended the College of Idaho the freshman and sophomore year majoring in Chemistry. Due to family illness she returned home to help take care of her father. There she met and married Leonard (Jack) Henry Mullen 12 November 1947 at the Mullen Ranch in Oakley, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized 17 December 1952 in the Idaho Falls temple. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in various callings. Her little family lived on the Mullen Ranch for a few years than Jack began work for the Skoro Mining Company where he stayed for about 16 years. Virginia used her skills in Chemistry to do assay work for the mine as well as cook for the miners. Jack started work at Simplot's Potato processing with Virginia joining him there about 1974. Virginia and Jack became active members of the Grain Millers International where they both served as various officers over the years. She retired from Simplot's to spend time with Jack who passed away in 1992. Virginia worked at State Potato Inspection for many years. She was known as a hard worker. Younger workers complained that they could not keep up with her. She retired from that job and spent many years enjoying her posterity. Virginia was an independent woman who lived on her own up to the time she passed away at 89 years old.
She leaves behind 2 sisters, Dorothy Bush and Jackie Gochnour and 5 sons, Leonard Henry (April), Harley, Wayne (Elda), James (Karen), and Bret (Crystal) Mullen, and 1 daughter, Susan Ann (Ken deceased) along with 125 grandchildren and great grandchildren and innumberable nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, 8 brothers, 4 sisters and 5 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

I love and miss you grandma! I'm so glad to know that I will see you and grandpa again! I'm sorry I can't come to the funeral! Love you so much!

Aunt Virginia was a tough pioneer woman. There wasn't anything she couldn't do. Smart as a tack too! I don't know if she realized how many people's lives she influenced. It seems the Helms family reunion is changing venues!
