SALT LAKE CITY, UT - Frederick Lineous Parke, age 97, died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at his home in Salt Lake City with family at his side.

He was born March 12, 1920 in Malta Idaho, the son of Ira C. and Anna May Kossman Parke. He was a graduate of Albion High School where he loved playing football and basketball, acting in plays, and studying electronics and radios. He earned his Eagle Scout in October of 1937.  He graduated with a teaching certification from the Albion State Normal School in June of 1940.

On August 30, 1940, he married Rose Elizabeth Jordan of Heyburn Idaho, the love of his life, and they moved to Aberdeen, Idaho where he taught elementary school for 2 years. He became interested in air traffic control and left teaching to pursue training in Seattle. He also learned to fly.  When WWII began, he enlisted in the Navy and was trained again for air traffic control.  He was posted to Pensacola, FL.  After the war he joined the Civil Aviation Agency (the CAA, which later became the FAA).  He served at control towers in Pocatello, Idaho; Pendleton, Oregon; and Boise, Idaho.  He served the majority of his career at the Salt Lake International Airport.

Fred was born in the horse and buggy era and lived to see a man on the moon and beyond. His family were pioneers in Utah and Idaho, especially in his beloved Albion Valley.  He was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to support his family and make sure their futures were secure. 

Fred had a life-long adventure with radios. He was a dedicated HAM (amateur radio operator, call W7OSQ) and was a member of the Utah Amateur Radio Club.  His dad taught him to fish and camp at an early age and he shared those skills with his own children on trips throughout the western U.S.  Later in life, after retirement, he became an avid rockhound and had many fun adventures looking for gem quality materials that he cut and polished into beautiful jewelry, which he sold and gave to family and friends. He was a member of the Wasatch Gem and Mineral Society.

He is survived by his two sons, Frederic Ira Parke of Leander, TX and Phillip Erle Parke of Salt Lake City, UT; two daughters, Rosanna Lynne Welter, West Valley, UT and Margaret Parke-Waltzing of Luxembourg, Europe; a sister, Margaret Parke Hale Oveross; four grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Rose, and his second wife Martha Kemper French.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Albion, Idaho, with Military Rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Auxiliaries. A memorial will be held at Friendship Manor in Salt Lake on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.  Local arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Payne Funeral Home 321 East Main Street in Burley.  Condolences may be left for the family at morrisonpayne.com.
