Robert “Bob”, “Dad”, “Papa Bob”, Nugen Sargent, 92, was peacefully carried to heaven on Wednesday morning, December 6, 2017 at Minidoka Memorial Hospital in Rupert, Idaho.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held in “The Barn” on Bob’s birthday, Saturday, January 13^th at 11:30am.  Dress warm, cowboy chili feed to follow.  150 South 233 West, Rupert, Idaho. 

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Mary Sargent, his brother Ted Sargent and four step grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife Eleanor of 34 years, his daughter Darla (Rick) Beckman, his grandchildren Jeremiah (Beth) LeMesurier, Seth (Brandijo) LeMesurier, Josiah (Lexi) LeMesurier, his great-grandchildren Liliana, Landon, Madilyn, Liam, Ella, Uriah, Penelope, and Maxwell, his sister Christy Bermensolo, his brother John Sargent, and many loving step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Bob was a loving son, father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend to all.

Bob lived in several places as he grew up including Vernal, Utah; Fort Bridger and Hole in the Rock, Wyoming; Mink Creek, Preston and Weiser, Idaho;  Catalina Island;  Scottsdale, Arizona; Bishop, California;  Burley, Idaho and then settled in Rupert, Idaho.

Bob graduated from Weiser High School in 1944.  He took up boxing and became a coach at Weiser High School.  Bob won the North Western Golden Glove Middleweight Championship in Twin Falls, Idaho in 1946.  Bob’s true gift was horsemanship.  Bob traveled the rodeo circuit winning many events and became a skilled horse trainer.  He trained horses for Wrigleys on Catalina Island then on a dude ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Bob also worked as a horse handler and as an extra in a few movies including Three Violent People, Nevada Smith, and Partners.  After this he moved to Bishop, California where he met and married Almeda Tallon in 1962, the mother of his five step children Jim, Cheryl, Karen, Tom and Rita, and his daughter Darla.  He trained, showed and acquired winning horses with top bloodlines.  Bob and his family moved to Burley in 1969 where he continued to train and show horses. He then purchased land in Rupert and built an indoor arena and horse stable.  Bob’s marriage to Almeda ended after 19 years in 1981. 

Bob met his wife Eleanor in 1982 and they married in March of 1983. Bob and Eleanor shared a love for horses and riding.  Bob continued to breed top blood lines and train winning horses. He also taught many men, women and children about handling horses and passed on his passion for the relationship between a rider and his/her horse while he demonstrated the heart of a loving Father.  In his later years Bob studied and graduated with a degree in theology through INSTE theological Institute, more recently he studied Hebrew.  

Bob was a kind and gentle man with an oversized heart. He loved Jesus, people, learning and teaching. He left practical “horse sense” and wisdom with all those he encountered.  He walked in and showed the same generosity, gentleness and loving acceptance that God had shown him.  He is a treasured part of so many lives and will he be greatly missed.  Cremation services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.
Bob was a great and wonderful person, always there to help. He was an exceptional horse man. I will miss being able to call and ask for help at any time for wisdom concerning horses and especially Jesus.  He knew more about Jesus and horses than anyone else I knew. He was always seeking and learning and had time for everyone. He was never too busy if you needed help.
He will be missed but I know he is with Jesus and having a lot of fun with all his horses and friends. Love and prayers to all, Elaine

I miss bob every day. He was a living legend, and I feel so lucky to have known him later in his life, as it turns out. As we carry on with the barn, and the horse facility, it still feels like sacred ground, and we are privileged, still, to share it with special horses. I remember the day I met him, and I will always remember the day he left us. He is with the angels now.  Love to all of his family, from "the barn!"

We were so blessed to have known Bob. He was such an influence on me and on my daughter, Jennifer. He spent many days nurturing us and teaching us about horses. I felt so honored to call him a friend and teacher. We spent many many hours at Bob and Eleanor's home in Rupert. He was a wonderful Christian man, teacher and friend. He will be greatly missed by those who had the honor of knowing him but he is with his Lord now and I believe I can hear him laughing with joy.
