Ronald Dirk Severe, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 after a short but valiant battle against cancer.

“Dirk” was born on July 11, 1957 in Dugway, Utah to Ruth and Ronnie Severe, who later divorced.  After his mother’s re-marriage to his step-father, Dean Winnett, Dirk became an avid hunter and fisherman, earning the nickname of “Mountain Goat”.

On March 7, 1981, Dirk married the love of his life, Merla Pearson and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Edie Pearson-Severe Robinson and Shandi (Lonne) McCann.  In recent years, the couple were blessed with four amazing grandchildren, Koby Christiansen, Troy Robinson, Bryce McCann and Hailee McCann.  Dirk’s face always lit with pride and joy whenever his grandchildren were present.

Dirk attended schools in Burley, Idaho and graduated from Burley High in 1975.  He then went to work at the J.R. Simplot Company, working on the carton line and the ethanol plant.  In recent years, Dirk worked as the production manager for Biowest Ag Services where he worked with the best boss and co-workers in the world.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Winnett; two brothers, Bret Severe of Twin Falls and Cory (Amber) Winnett of Paul, Idaho; two sisters, Rhonda (Kip) Forsdick and Tammy (Larry) Lee both of Weiser, Idaho; his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father and stepfather, grandparents and one nephew, Jamie Wilcox.

Dirk’s family would like to thank Stephen Devers for his unfailing support throughout Dirk’s four month battle and Intermountain Health and Hospice, especially Wanda, Ilene, Stephanie and Kay.

Dirk was truly a gentle man’s gentleman and will be greatly missed.

A remembrance social will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary on Thursday, December 21, 2017.  Services are under the direction of Joel Heward Morrison Payne Funeral Home in Burley.

I will always be indebted to Dirk for all he taught me about life, He was the Big Brother I never had! He showed me how to camp, The South Hills, Hunting and fishing, all the things a big brother would do! I will cherish our friendship for the rest of my life! I know when my time comes, he will be there with open arms to welcome me home. Words do not do justice for him, it is all I have other than my Great Respect for him and all he stood for! He will truly be missed! Until we meet again, Love ya!

Dear Aunt Ruth and cousins,
I am just reading dirk's memorial this morning. I am so saddened by this news. I remember when uncle dean introduced us to our new aunt and cousins how excited curt and I were to have cousins our age (even though they were burley bobcats!). Though we've lost communication through the years I can hear the love in the words describing dirk and his family. Praying to god that your celebration of a life well lived will be filled with honor and love.
