Darrell Lane Runyon of Burley passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 Highland Estates. He was 86 years old.
Darrell was born July 4, 1931 in Wendell, ID to Harley and Jennie Runyon. He attended school in the Wendell area where he met his sweetheart Patricia “Pat” Pfost who became his wife of over 60 years. He loved sports and as a young man he pitched for some semi-pro baseball teams with an opportunity to go professional. He chose to stay close to his roots and they lived in Weiser, ID, Ontario, OR, and Mountain Home, ID while Darrell worked for the railroad. Later on he chose a career in the building industry working for Volco and then retiring from Anderson Lumber. Darrell was well respected in the industry and was known for his wealth of knowledge.
Darrell also was a Volunteer Fireman and served as a Reserve Police Officer in the Burley area in his younger days. With his love of sports he also spent years refereeing high school sports and city softball leagues. As he retired from refereeing he spent many years supporting the teams as a fan. Dad enjoyed the outdoors especially any chance to go hunting or fishing. There were many hunting and fishing trips enjoyed by his boys and his grandchildren. Darrell was a bowler he and Pat bowled at Bonanza Lanes until the bowling alley closed.
Darrell is survived by his four sons Orlie (Nan) Runyon of Covington, WA; Rick (Kelly) Runyon of Rupert, ID; Rod (Jayne) Runyon of Burley, ID; Marty (Chrissy) Runyon of Heyburn, ID; 17 grandchildren and 16 great children. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Pat, his parents and three brothers.
The service will be Thursday, February 15 at 11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, 188 S Hwy 24, Rupert, ID.
The family will receive friends and family thirty minutes before the service. Burial will be at the Wendell Cemetery following the service. Condolences can be shared at morrisonpayne.com
