Philbert Dwain Lind, a 91 year resident of Burley, Idaho passed away peacefully on Monday July 16th, 2018 at his home.
He was born December 30th, 1926 at his grandparents’ home in Grouse Creek, Utah. He was the second son of Philbert C. Lind and Cora E. Toyn. Dwain loved the Lynn Valley, where he grew up riding horses, feeding cows, hunting deer and collecting unique pets. He attended a one room school until the age of 12 when he and his 13 year old brother, Oscar, went to Brigham City, Utah to “batch it” by taking care of themselves and attending school. He later graduated from Bear River High School and went to Utah State University. He served in the army replacing the troops in Italy, cleaning up after World War II.
He married Margene Stark October 20th, 1948 in the Logan Utah temple. Years later they returned there to serve as temple workers. They lived and ranched in Lynn, Utah until moving to Tremonton, Utah s their children could attend school. While there he worked at Morton Thikol. Not liking city life, Dwain bought a farm in View, Idaho and moved his family there in 1966. Later in life he worked as a carpenter and at the Burley Irrigation District. He and his wife, Margene served a mission at Martin’s Cove, Wyoming, sharing pioneer stories and building over 300 handcarts. Until the age of 90 he enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and attending the temple weekly.
Dwain was preceded in death by his wife, Margene; his father and mother; 2 brothers, Oscar and Douglas Lind; a son Stephen Dwain Lind, and 2 grandchildren, Kimberly Turner Shaw and Joshua Lind.
He is survived by his children Janette (Paul) Turner of Burley, Jeff (Patsy) Lind of Santa Maria, California, Kevin Lind of Burley and Diane Lind (Steve) of Nephi, Utah; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren; one brother Marvel (Junelle) Lind South Jordan, Utah; 2 sisters Ellen (Hyrum) Olsen Logan, Utah and Virgene (Denton) Darrington of Declo.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at the View 1st Ward Building, 550 South 490 East in Burley with Bishop William Heward officiating Burial will follow in the View Cemetery with military rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at Morrison Payne Funeral Home, 321 East Main Street in Burley and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the funeral.
