VALENTIN ITUARTE
RUPERT - Valentin Ituarte, 91 year old Rupert resident, died Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at his home in Rupert. Graveside services with urn placement will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Rupert Cemetery. Services are under the directions of Morrison Funeral Home & Crematory in Rupert. Valentin Ituarte Lamiquiz was born in Arbacegui, Bizkaia, Spain on September 9, 1927. He was the fourth child of eight born to Juan Jose Ituarte and Leandra Lamiquiz. He is survived by one brother and two sisters, one a nun. Valentin went to school until he was fourteen years old. After that he was helping on the family farm. Later on he worked at the small dairy close to Bilbao for one year. The owner spoke only Spanish which increased Valentin’s knowledge of the language. When he left one of his brothers went to work there. Valentin served in the Spanish Army then he worked making gun stocks. In 1957 he came to the United States and worked for Johnny Basterrechea as a sheep herder joining his brother, Jaime, who came there three years earlier. Valentin spent 12 years working there. He got his resident card in 1969 and joined his brother, Jaime working their own farm and a small feedlot. They worked and enjoyed retirement together. Valentin was a very hard worker.
