JW Young, 90, of Burley, Idaho, died October 30, 2019 at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise, Idaho.
He was born October 26, 1929 in Greenville, Ohio, the son of George Harold and Ethel Mae Young. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1947. A few years later while stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base, he met Dona Ilene Mabey, a nursing student, in Boise. They were married on December 18, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 8, 1978.
After a 22-year military career and many moves around the globe, he settled his family in Burley which was the home of his wife’s ancestral roots. He began a new career with the JR Simplot Company and served as the plant manager for both the Burley and Heyburn facilities. After retiring from that position, he worked for Farm Bureau Insurance.
JW was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter, and pilot. He was also a member of the Burley Elks Lodge and a volunteer fireman for the Burley Fire Department.
Survivors include two sons David J Young of Alpine, Utah and Scott D Young of Twin Falls, Idaho; one sister Mary Alice of Jenera, Ohio; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and son Mark K Young, parents, and two brothers Donald Eugene Young and Richard Lee Young.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the Burley Stake Center, 2050 Normal Ave. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Auxilaries. Friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 Saturday morning at the church prior to the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hyw 24 in Rupert.
