Charles Michael Leonard

Mike Leonard, an 81 old resident of Heyburn, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday December 15, 2021,

Mike was born December 6th 1940, in Santa Ana California to Charles Red Leonard and Sadie Louise (Ryel) Leonard. He attended schools in Santa Ana, California.

Dad was born with a wrench in his hand and was ready to work on any car that came his way. He grew up working on cars. He was able to help many people keep their car running. This is what he loved doing.

Dad followed his dreams and was a wonderful mechanic and respected by many. He worked for many dealer ships. While in California he worked for the Cadillac garage. In 1971 Mike loaded up his family and moved to Idaho. This was huge for a man that did not like change. This is where his wife was from.

He came to Idaho and went to work for Hanzel motors.  Hanzels was sold to Don Ovitt and then to Kim Hansen, this is where he retired from. working on cars in Idaho was a big change from cars in California but he loved every minute of it. He worked on many farmers' cars and trucks and he could remember every car and owner that came his way. He could look at a car and tell you the year it was made and anything else about the car. He was able to pass his knowledge to his Son Bryan.

He married the love of his life Jerri (Hess) Leonard. They were married June 11th 1961. They were married for 56 years before Jerri passed in May of 2017.

Mike is survived by his daughter Lisa Leonard (Church) of Rupert, son Bryan Leonard of Heyburn, Grandson Garrison Woodman of Rupert and Granddaughter Lyndy Woodman and his Great-Granddaughter Addison Woodman, Brother Jon (Peggy) Leonard of California, sister Cindy (Stan) Bortz of California and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Jerri (Hess) Leonard, his parents and grandparents.

Mike's biggest love was the love of his two dogs. His first one was Petey that passed away, then he adopted Pete. He loved this dog more than anything and he would feed Pete before he would eat. This dog is what kept my dad going. He would get up every day and go to Wal-Mart and buy Pete more dog treats. Dad’s last wish was to make sure that his dog would be taken care of when he was gone. Don't worry dad, Pete is being very well taken care of, he does miss you very much. One of Dad's favorite places to visit was Bedke Treasure Barn. This is where he picked up a love of clocks. His home was filled with clocks. We all received clocks for any special occasion.

Our dad was a very quiet man so at our dad's request there will be no services for him. We will have a memorial for him in the summer of 2022.

I would like to Thank my brother Bryan for the wonderful care that he provided for our dad through out the years.

Condolences Charles Michael Leonard

Mike was SPECIAL to me and my brother Larry. We Were more Like brother and sister than cousins. We lived right next Door To each other and shared a huge back yard. Larry and i Miss all of those great days as kids playing Croquet, baseball, swimming, and just being kids. We were very lucky. Kind of lost touch with each other as we all married and moved away. We did have phones of course and we stayed in touch that way and this was mikes way to talk about his child hood and all his great memories Larry and I Loved you and will see you sometime and can again share Memories. We love you!
