ALETA F. STRINGHAM
OAKLEY -Aleta was born 27 December 1937 in American Falls, Power County, Idaho to Merlin and Ella Nora Allen Hunt. She was the youngest of their five children.
She attended a one-room country school, District #19, at Lake Channel, where the entire student body consisted of 8 children, the other 7 being her first cousins. After the schools ere consolidated, Aleta attended schools in American Falls from the 5th grade through high school. She graduated from American Falls High School as the Valedictorian in 1955. She graduated as Marshall of her class at Idaho State College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. She was a member of Rho Chi, the Pharmacy Honor Society.
Aleta loved to dance and met her husband-to-be in the Social Dance class at college. He was a good dancer, and they served as dance directors at the LDS Institute at ISC even before they were married. Later they were Ward and Stake dance directors in Pocatello and Oakley. They taught Ballroom dance and enjoyed square dancing.
Aleta and Alonzo (Lonnie) Edwin Stringham were married on 12 June 1957 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of 10 children.
In October 1963 they moved to Oakley, Idaho where they owned and operated the Oakley Drug Store until 1982. Aleta was a registered Pharmacist. After they closed the pharmacy in Oakley, she worked at Hamilton Drug in Burley, Minidoka Pharmacy in Rupert, Cassia Memorial Hospital, Swensen’s Paul Drug, and K-Mart Pharmacy. In the fall of 2002, Aleta opened the Kwik-Meds Pharmacy in Burley. She was very proud of the fact that this small independent hometown pharmacy successfully served well, and especially helped many of the elderly population with their medications.
Music was an important part of her life. She played the trumpet, beginning in 5th grade band. She played in high school and college bands and for over 23 years in the Magic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Burley. She played taps for many military graveside services. She also played in the stage orchestra for many theatrical productions. She organized a band that played each year at the Hunt Family Reunion. She served as an officer for many years, several terms as President of the Idaho Chapter of the Hunt Family Foundation and Trustee for Idaho.
She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has served in many callings, including dance director, Primary teacher, Gospel Doctrine teacher, Relive Society Spiritual Living teacher, and 1st counselor in the Relief Society Presidency, Ward Librarian, and sang alto in the Ward choir. She is very interested in family history. She served two 6-month missions with her husband to the Rex Ranch in Nebraska.
Community service was a priority with Aleta. She served as Sec of the Oakley Chamber of Commerce, helped establish the Oakley Quick Response Unit, and published the Oakley News for 11 years, served as Registrar of the Election for over 30 years, and served as Chief Judge of the Election Board for many years. She was PTA President. She was a 4-H leader teaching cooking. She made homemade bread and sold it to support her son, Daniel, while he was on his mission to Korea. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Oakley Cassia Camp, and was one of the organizers of the Oakley DUP Museum. She held the office of Registrar and taught monthly lessons.

Condolences:
She was an amazing lady who worked hard. It wasn't easy for her when she couldn't do things for herself anymore. She did many things for many including me when you was married to Joe. She was a good grandma as well. My love and prayers to the family and friends. Heidi Robbins
Mom, we miss ya lots. You are a awesome mom to put up with all of us kids. I know it couldn't be easy for you and dad but thanks for all the love ya gave us. We were truly blessed. We couldn't have asked for better parents. We know where your at and we know that there is a wild reunion going on. We know that we will see ya again. Rest in heavenly peace til we get to see ya again. Love ya. Joe Stringham
Grama'Leta (aka the toughest kid in Lake Channel), I love you and I miss you. I can't wait to see you again. I'll bet you are having a grand time with Kent, your sister Gerry, your parents, brothers and everyone else. You were a tremendous example to me and a top notch grandma...Ginger Tarver
I have so many sweet memories of Grandma Aleta at family gatherings. She was an excellent grandmother and great grandmother, and my children enjoyed being pen pals with her. I look forward to meeting her on the other side some day...Lindsay Hodge
What a special lady Aleta was, and a very dear friend. We met playing trumpet in the Magic Philharmonic Orchestra and she was such a fun person. I really enjoyed my association with her and the things I learned from her. Wherever I saw her, in orchestra or at the pharmacy or just in Burley somewhere she always had a big smile and a "hello there, my friend" for me. Since we both "retired" from the orchestra, I haven't seen her too much. But when I did see her, it was always a joy to visit with her. May she rest in peace....Marilyn Buck
Aleta helped me and two others earn our printing merit badges by showing us how she printed the Oakley News. She played taps at my father's funeral. She volunteered at the Oakley Museum and encouraged me to volunteer there too. I am glad I listened to her. She was a great example of service work. My condolences to her family... Dwight K Hale
She was the only lady I knew that could spank hug and kiss within 2 seconds then follow it up with a slice of the best bread on earth and a glass of milk.
Short in stature but I haven’t heard of any man great or small who dared cross her.
A great leader of the Stringham clan for sure and will be greatly missed.
Love you grandma...Zach Stringham
Aleta has left an awesome legacy of service and industry! She was truly community minded and when she opened Kwik Meds for our community it was a labor of love! She gave me a job and when I didn't know what was next in my life!...Guylia R James
I think there are a lot of different definitions or ideas that people have for what success means or what a successful person is. If you look at the amount, and quality, of people that are on the earth because of her, as well as the people that she cared for and influenced, I have no doubt that she and her Father both see her time here to be a success, and that she will continue to be successful where she is now...Jeremy Tarver
My heart breaks at the passing of such a great woman. How she had the time to do everything she did & always have a smile on her face is beyond me. Growing up Toni was my best friend & I was over there all the time. And I mean all the time. Aleta treated me like one of her own. She didn't know just how important she was in my life. She was a role model & mentor. Aleta was everything I wanted to be. Strong, intelligent, kind, giving, non-judgmental, caring I could go on & on. I loved Aleta, she will be missed...Debi Cooper
As I was growing up in the great town of Oakley I remember when the Stringham’s moved to Oakley and run the Oakley Drug store.
I had the great pleasure of knowing most of the family and what great people they were. I spent so much time in there home, I often called Aleta mom. She was a wonderful lady and teacher. She taught me several great lessons of life and made me a better person.
My sincere love and prayers for all the family...John Reed
I was practically another one her kids. I was over there constantly as well as many others. She was very kind and loving to all who came over. It seems that every time I was there I was eating. I especially remember the home made bread. Though I am not able to attend in person, I want to express my love to the family. May God bless you at this time. I will never forget my growing up time in Oakley and having a great time hanging out with the Stringham family. Thoughts and prayers. Steve (Steven) Barber
Aleta had a profound influence on my life. She was a mentor, not only in the pharmacy, but also out on the dance floor! When she started Kwik-Meds Pharmacy, she also created my future job. What an impact she had in so many areas of my life. Aleta exemplified so many traits I admire: compassion, professionalism, even-temperedness, sense of humor, loyalty, integrity, and a keen knowledge of making God and family a priority. What a tremendous lady! Connie Paslay
Grandma, I don't know what I'm gonna do on Wednesdays at noon. That's our lunch time. I miss you so much. Thank you for the music, the cookies, the bread, and the love. I'm going to make some cowboy cookies for ya!
Love You! Allen Hunt
What a phenomenal Lady. I’m so thankful for her friendship over the decades. Aleta not only ran the drugstore in Oakley, but also patched up my kids from time to time! In Book Club she “ took us on her trips” across the US to visit her family, and we also got to experience her family history moments when she was researching and “things just fell into place”. Ask, and it shall be given unto you. Woman of Faith and Unconditional Love. We also shared a love for another kind of Mentor…Artist Mary Englebreit…..May God Bless and comfort your loved ones at this time Aleta…. and your Good Works continue from your new abode. I love you. Anne Martin
