LAYTON EUGENE LARSON
RUPERT -Layton Eugene Larson was born on February 20, 1946 in Shoshone, ID to Leland and Joanne Larson. He joined two older brothers, Roger and Garland, and was later a big brother to Brenda, Ronald, and Laurel. His favorite time growing up was in Rockland where he was a slight terror and loved life! Even though his home life was rough during his growing up years, he found much joy with his friends and caused as much mischief as he could. He was always trying to prove he was bigger than his size!

He had the privilege of serving in the Northern States mission from 1967-1969. We have all heard the stories of the cold winters, eating puppy dog stew, and loving the people that he served.

After returning home from his mission, he attended Ricks College and then knew that he needed to attend ISU to meet the love of his life of almost 52 years and all eternity. One day, he was asked to substitute a Preparation for Courtship and Marriage class and was asking the class members where they were from and what their parents did for a living. When he got to a girl from Idaho Falls and made the wrong comment of “eww, a potato farmer”, he soon learned to never cross this woman and spent the rest of his life perfecting that lesson. He started dating Jacqueline Isom in August 1971, asked her to marry him in December, and they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in June 1972. Their family includes Melisa (Darren) Robinson, Ryan (Rochelle), Craig (Laurie), Jodie (Clint) Brunson, and Jennilee (Jim) McCarrey, 18 grandchildren, Cade (Jerika), Colton (Brooklyn), Myrissa (fiance Jake), Wyatt (McCall), Aubryana, McKadee (fiance Rhen), Kylee, Rhett, Samuel, Emily, Caitlyn, Averi, Addysen, Matthew, Tate, Teagan, Natalie, and Cannon, and 3 ¾ great-grandchildren, Wylde, Lyvi, Wave, and Baby Girl.  Nothing would have made him happier than everyone living on his 10 acre farm and moving in a herd everywhere they went!

His other life love was farming and running cows. He was adamant that in his later years he didn’t want to leave his farm because that is all that he knew. He got his wish! He was able to die with his boots on out on his farm.

Papa Bear, Dad, Grandpa, or Uncle Tony always had a twinkle in his eye, a story to tell three different ways in one sitting, and a joke to share. He will be hugely missed until we meet again.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Acequia 2nd Ward Building, 20403 5th Street in Acequia.  Burial will follow in the Rupert Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert, and from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Church prior to the funeral.  Services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert.
