Jeanne Marie (Gee) Scott died April 27, 2024, at home.  She was born at her grandparents’ home, in Yale, Oklahoma  to Modie and Evlyn Gee, on January 8, 1933. She spent the first 18 years of her life at Yale.  She loved music so she became involved in many musical activities in high school.  Her favorite was the girls’ trio, the JeanneRaeBobs.  They sang in many places and at many events, at least as many as you can in a town of 900 people. She also wrote a column for the local newspaper, called Tricks of the Teens.

That taste of the newspaper business led her to Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) where she majored in Journalism. With this major, she spent many happy hours working for the college newspaper, The Daily O’Collegian. She enjoyed all the college activities, especially the sporting events and the dances. In her junior year, she met Bob Scott, a handsome young man from Carnegie, Oklahoma.  They became engaged in June of 1953 and when Bob got his draft call in July, they decided to be married on August 2, 1953. Two weeks later, he became a member of the US Army and Jeanne went back to college to finish her BA degree in 1954.

Bob’s army service took him to Germany, where Jeanne joined him for nine months.  They enjoyed their time there, being able to see many parts of Europe on army tours.

After their return from Germany, Bob finished his degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma A&M.  During this time, their daughter, Lisa Deanne was born. Just before his graduation, Bob’s name was drawn in a Veteran’s Land Drawing in Idaho. They decided to give Idaho farming a try, and despite the struggles of the early years they never regretted their choice.  They grew to love Idaho and the people.  They raised grain, potatoes, sugar beets, hay, pea, and bean seed. They also raised cattle for many years, which led to many adventures around the farm.  In 1962, their son Douglas Robert was born, to complete the family.

Jeanne and Bob stayed on the go, following their kids as they showed championship steers, not only locally, but over the northwest, and at The Cow Palace in San Francisco. Countless friends were made through this activity, as well as paying the kids way through college.  After Doug’s graduation they changed their fun times to horse racing, not only breeding horses, but buying and racing horses all over the Northwest and Los Angeles.

Deanne and her husband Brian living on the west coast of Oregon led to many fun adventures with them and their daughter, Lisa, along the Oregon coast, Eugene, Portland, Seattle and Alaska.  They made many trips to Idaho, and their support, especially over the most recent years, was a great comfort.

Jeanne always said that she wasn’t good at crafting things, but she did enjoy helping Bob on the farm, reading, music, dancing, cooking and entertaining. She had many happy memories of the parties and cook-outs that they held under their carport. Good friends and good times!     She was an active member of the Rupert United Methodist Church, the Kasota Sagehens and the Desert Gold Cowbells.

Soon after Bob died in 2018, her son, Douglas, moved home and spent her final years with her, working remotely from home.  She felt blessed and was able to stay in her home until her death.

Jeanne only had one grandchild, Lisa.  Since Lisa grew up in Eugene, OR their time together was limited, but they made the most of that time, playing countless and varied games over the years, starting with Hi-Ho Cherry O when Lisa was two.  In all those years, the only games that Jeanne could win were when they played Old Maid.

She is survived by her children, Deanne (Brian) Evanoff, of Eugene, OR, and Douglas Scott, of Hazelton, ID., one grandchild, Lisa of Boston, MA.   She is also survived by four nieces, Susan McCullough, of Aurora, CO, Donna Zawatski of Colorado Springs, CO, Terry Longan of Beggs, OK and Marsha Lybolt, of Tuttle, OK.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob and her sister, Carol Farmer.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2 pm at Morrison Funeral Home 188 S Hwy 24 Rupert, ID.

Condolences:

Dear Deanne, Brian, Lisa and Doug.
Jeannie always made me feel like I was the most important person in the room. She was always so kind to all of the kids and offered up such a beautiful home to visit. I remember Bob's starched and ironed white shirts and creased jeans. I was able to join the Kasota Sagehens and spend such valuable time with the Kasota ladies…Jeannie being a huge part of that group.
I know you will miss her terribly. Prayers for all of you. Tia Collett Mullins
