DON FLOYD PICKETT
OAKLEY - Don Floyd Pickett, 68-year-old Oakley rancher and lawyer, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, in the mountains he knew so well and loved. He was born October 13, 1955, in Burley, Idaho. Don was the first-born son, and third child of six born to Floyd and Joyce Emma Taylor Pickett. He attended grade school in Oakley and later graduated from Oakley High School in 1974 where he was student-body president and excelled in numerous sports including football and basketball. He then attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho before receiving his mission call to the South Africa, Johannesburg Mission (1975-1977). Upon his return he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree and the University of Idaho where he graduated in 1985 with a Juris Doctor degree.
He married Patricia Ann Scott on May 9, 1985, in the Logan, Utah Temple. They have four children and have spent most of their married life in the Oakley area. Don was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities including home teacher, elder’s quorum president, counselor in the young men’s presidency, high counselor, and bishop.
Don loved being involved in civil matters and standing up for his rights as a citizen and member of his community. He served on several boards including the Oakley Canal Company, Treasurer of Water District 140, and Chairman of the Idaho State Animal Damage Control Board. He devoted most of his time, however, to managing the sheep and taking care of the herders.
Don is survived by his wife Patty of Oakley; daughter, Ashley (Jordan) Bowen, three sons, John (Jill) Pickett, Mark (Channing) Pickett, and Parley Pickett all of Oakley; mother, Joyce Pickett of Oakley; two brothers David (Kristin) Pickett and Doug (Brady) Pickett both of Oakley; sister, Penni (Matthew) Cousineau of Gile, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Pickett, and two sisters, Rhonda and Kathy Pickett.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Oakley Stake Center in Oakley, with Bishop Zane Gillette, officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 at the Oakley Stake Center and from 10:00 until 10:45 Saturday morning at the church prior to the funeral.
