OAKLEY - Gilbert McKay Hunter passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, October 4, 2024.
He was born in Oakley Idaho to Maxine and Arco Hunter on November 27, 1946. He grew up and loved living in Oakley, Idaho. He loved Chevy's, hunting, jokes, and heated debates!
He fell in love with and married Connie Lousie Butler on April 3, 1970.
Throughout the years he worked a variety of jobs. He worked for the Oakley Highway Department for over 40 years. He loved running heavy equipment. Between guns and heavy equipment his hearing was a little weak to say the least.
He is survived by his son, Doug Hunter, and his family, Stacey Hunter, his wife, and his following grandchildren, Madison Hunter Kent, Kennadi Hunter Peart, McKay Hunter, McKinley Hunter, Hadley Hunter, and Presley Hunter, and his 6 great grandchildren, Oliver, Banks, Presley, Maybell, Cora, Harper, and his brother Terry Hunter.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Oakley Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 355 North Center Street, Oakley, Idaho with burial to follow in the Oakley Cemetery. Family will greet friends Friday morning from 9:00 to 9:45 at the church prior to the funeral.
Condolences:
Gibb, I miss you my chicken partner! Thank you for always helping me with my projects ! Most of them were your ideas. I miss our morning phone calls. Dexter and the chickens miss you lots. Enjoy your new painless, happy life. Tell Connie hello. Bye friend. Patty Hicks
Gilbert was a good friend. I have many good memories of him and his family.. Leonard Mullen
Goldie and I love Gib. He is a great man, an upstanding man and a great friend. Gib, we will miss you. Thank you for making us feel welcome when we moved to Oakley. We’re so happy you’re wjith your sweetheart, now. Much love, Goldie and Pam Teeter
Sincere condolences to Doug and family. We were neighbors to the Hunter family when we lived in Oakley (they lived in the David B Haight home). Gib was my older brother’s (Larry) best friend and they were inseparable. The tragic event on November 30, 1962 strengthened the bond between these two young men and they remained very close until Larry’s passing in 2018. I will always cherish the special memories and experiences with them through the years. I was very blessed to know such a quiet and humble angel in his care and concern for others. I reference the time he spent with Larry and Ramon Rodriguez in their final mortal moments. How wonderful was the reunion of these three ‘amigos’ in the spirit world! Lyle Sager
My family and I miss you already, my kids loved the memories they made at your house from playing on the slide to picking fruit from your garden. Say hi to Connie for us, you were a wonderful neighbor. Thank you for bringing us vegetables whenever you had to much! Maria
Connie & GiB, peanut butter & jelly, salt & pepper….. some things are just meant to be NOT separated. I’m so thankful for your friendship in our lives since we moved to Oakley in 1976. Thankful for all your many talents… you & Shane building the east porch deckrescuing my locked keys in the car ( without Rex finding out) planting grass up in the Basin yard… and a thousand other meaningful times. Most Faithful Home Teacher on this planetand good friend. Thank you and God Bless you & Connie- Together Again Anne Martin
So sorry for your loss. Heidi Robbins
