Christopher (Chris) Jason Jones, beloved husband, father, and brother died Saturday, March 8, 2025 in the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, from complications of a heart attack.

Born March 29, 1971 in Boise, Idaho, Chris was the second son of Sharon Stephens and Lloyd Wornell.  Shortly after his birth, his parents separated and his mother moved Chris and his 3 siblings from two marriages to Burley, and then Oakley, Idaho.  Later, when Sharon remarried, other siblings were added to the family leaving Chris as the middle son with plenty of playmates for his childhood.  Chris attended Oakley schools and graduated from Oakley High School in 1990.  He later attended Wyoming Technical Institute where he received a certificate in Diesel Mechanics.

Chris married Kristi Tillett November 17, 2001.  They were sealed in May, 2003 in the Bountiful, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  In 2006, their son, Jason Christopher Jones was born several weeks premature, and Chris was a most careful and proud father with his tiny son.

Chris’s career centered on diesel mechanics and fabrication, which gave him a sense of accomplishment but he was defined more as an outdoorsman.   He loved camping, hunting and fishing, cutting firewood, and spending time for any reason in the mountains.  Through the years, Chris loved teaching Jason all he knew about the woods and cutting firewood.  His first priority was keeping Jason safe and teaching him how to do the job well.

Chris served in a few different callings in LDS wards in Utah, Nevada and Idaho.  He was recently called as the Gospel Principles teacher, but his favorite calling was in the Boy Scout program where he could use his love of the outdoors and his talents in nature.  He was well known for being a real joker, as well as being soft hearted and kind to a fault.  He would help anyone at any time, which reflected the scout slogan:  “Do a good turn daily.” For Chris it wasn’t a slogan.  These were the words he lived by.

Chris is survived by his wife Kristi and son, Jason.  Also by siblings:  Gena (Monte) Lott, Geoffrey Papp, Charles (Julia) Jones, Tonya (Shane) Fridley, Tammy Jones, Dawn (Rusty) Sanders, and Erman (Rachel) Jones.  And he is predeceased by his parents: Lloyd Wornell and Sharon Jones, and one brother, Stephen Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 at the 12th ward Star Building, 96 South 200 West. Burley, Idaho, with Bishop Michael Jeppson officiating.  Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Oakley Cemetery, Oakley Idaho.  Friends may call Thursday evening, March 20, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert, and from 10:00 until 10:45 Friday morning at the church prior to the funeral.

Condolences:

Kristi and Jason:
May our Heavenly Father bless and comfort you in this trial of life! Chris was such a delight to talk to and so enjoyed his comments pertaining to life, his family and above that, his testimony of the gospel. I could always count on him to share that testimony with each of us in all that he did! He loved you both and he loved his Savior and Heavenly Father. He was so humble in expressing that love when he spoke. I will truly miss that spirit, but know that he will continue on making that testimony grow stronger. He will be watching over you both as you continue on this path. Even more, I was impressed that Jason was performing his duties this past weekend. What proof that Jason's heart was right where his Father would have wanted it, serving the Lord.
May the Lord's love comfort and bless you both and ever guide you and protect you. Wanting you both to know that we love you and feel some of the pain you are going through.
All our love, Leon and Dori Clegg
