Sharon Blauer Rodriguez, long-time resident of Burley, Idaho passed away surrounded by her family on March 8, 2025. She was born on February 7, 1942, into the family of Joseph Arnold Blauer and Alma Parker Blauer. She lived in the Burley area all her life except for two years when she lived in Boise, Idaho for her husband’s employment.
Sharon attended Overland Elementary School, Burley Junior High and Burley High School. She always had to walk to school since there was no such thing as a school bus back then. During her growing up years, her family was of very humble means. When she was a child, the family moved to a home on Hansen Avenue in Burley. At this home, her father planted a large, one-acre garden. They would harvest the garden and can and store all the food. For entertainment, her family would sit around and listen to the radio.
Sharon enjoyed scrap booking, listening to country music, and traveling. She enjoyed bowling and for several years joined a bowling league at the old Y-Dell bowling Alley. She was a fluent Spanish speaker thanks to marrying into a large Hispanic family. One thing she did not enjoy very much was cooking. Sharon was a member of the St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church. She served for many years in the women’s Altar Society.
Sharon often said the biggest accomplishment of her life was getting married and having children. She married the love of her life Robert U. Rodriguez in April 1957 at the ripe old age of 15. At the time of her passing, they had been married for 67 years. In June 2017 the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and repeated their marriage vows. Sharon credits their six children for keeping the family together. Sharon and Robert have 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. They raised their six children and helped raise three grandchildren. They have also spent a great deal of time with their great grandchildren. They have never really been without children in their home. Sharon and Robert purchased their home on Almo Avenue and have lived there for 57 years.
Robert and Sharon were both very hard workers. Sharon’s first job was at the Burley A&W Root Beer Stand working as a carhop when she was 16 years old. She was employed by JR Simplot for 30 years with the last several years of her career serving as a lab technician. At the age of 50, she was happy that her employer encouraged her to complete her GED and paid for the course. She worked at JR Simplot until they closed the plant in 2001.
Like everyone, Sharon had her share of trials and tribulations. Her daughter Gloria was born with heart problems and had to travel frequently to San Francisco to the University of California Hospital for her care. This puts a huge financial burden on the family. They were grateful when the community rallied around them and held various fundraisers on their behalf.
In March 2018 their home on Almo Avenue was severely damaged by fire. Robert and Sharon lost almost everything including videos and photos. It took several months for their home to be restored so they could move back in.
In Sharon’s words we quote, “Overall my life has been adventurous. When I pass from this earth, I don't want anyone to try and make me into something I'm not. I just want people to remember that I was dedicated to my family, that I worked hard all my life, and that I was an honest person. I also want people to know that I had strong family values.”
Sharon is survived by her spouse Robert U. Rodriguez and her children: Larry Rodriguez (Sylvia); Becky Pierce; Robert Jr. Rodriguez and Ron Rodriguez (Michelle).
She is preceded in death by her children: Gloria Rodriguez and Albert Rodriguez and her son-in-law Kerwin Pierce. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jay Blauer and Elaine Guckenburg.
A vigil service with recitation of the rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2025, at Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Little Flower Catholic Church, Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
