Walter Jean Lovingfoss, 83, of Heyburn, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born on July 18, 1932 in Champaign, Illinois to Walter C. and Mary F. Lovingfoss.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a Master's Degree in Engineering from Auburn University.  Walter serviced 22 years in the United States Air Force in various command assignments including research engineer at the National Security Agency and program director for the United States Air Force Simulator Master Plan, Aeronautical Systems Division.  In his Air Force career he attended Squadron Officer School in 1958, Air Command and Staff College in 1968, Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1973, and the Air War College in 1975.

Walter Jean Lovingfoss was known to many by his middle name, Jean, and to his loved ones as Honey, Dad and Grandpa.  He was a humble man who met everyone with courtesy, humility, and a firm handshake. He took pride in what he had and worked for every penny of it.  He was a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who completed two tours in Vietnam.  He flew all over the world and landed in the last dream of being a cattle rancher.  Among being a loving husband, father and grandfather, he was an avid foreign car collector, world traveler, and animal lover.  From a college professor, to a jet fighter pilot, to a National Security Agency officer, and finally to a cowboy, Walter Jean Lovingfoss will be greatly appreciated.

He is survived by his wife, Delia; daughters Lisa Kay L. Lovingfoss, Heyburn, Idaho,  Mary Jean Delia Lovingfoss, Rupert, Idaho, Annie Lovingfoss, Carmel, California, sons, Jed Lovingfoss, Honolulu, Hawaii, Joel Lovingfoss, Honolulu, Hawaii; grandsons, Michah Lovingfoss, Honolulu, Hawaii, Joey Yant, Pacific Grove, California, Kai Lovingfoss, Japan.  A grandson, Richie Yant, preceded him in death.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Morrison Funeral Home 188 South Highway 24 in Rupert.  Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
