MICHAEL GLENN SHOWALTER

RUPERT - Michael Glenn Showalter, 66, went to Heaven to be with The Lord on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. Mike was born June 27, 1949 in Burley to Glenn and Vera (Borrowman) Showalter. Mike grew up in Heyburn on the family farm. When he was not farming, he could be found hunting, fishing, or with his buddies. Mike worked several years at the Burley Simplot Processing Plant and on December 27, 1968 he joined the US Navy. Over 4 years, he was on several ships including the U.S.S. Durham and U.S.S. Navarro. He received his GED and specialized in engine mechanics, working in the ships engine rooms. The summer of 75’, he met Becky Peterson while dragging Overland in Burley, and yes, it was an important day because December of that year they were married. In December 1978 their first child Samara was born and three years later in February, their second child, Mollie was born. Mike had started working for the Rupert Post Office, delivering mail to almost everyone in Rupert at one time or another. He retired in 2003 to spend time with Becky, take the grandkids fishing, and work on his rocks. He was a proud member of the Rupert First Baptist Church. He was known for affectionately calling people Dirty Dog, being a mailman and his garden. Mike loved: God, bowling, metal detecting, rock hunting, fishing, hunting, gardening, gold panning, going to auctions, Becky, family, friends, helping others, laughing, pulling tricks and telling stories. He had a VERY strong faith, a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. We love you Dirty Dog and will see you soon! Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years Becky, daughters Samara (Reed) Arthur and Mollie (Paul) Comer. Four grandkids, Avery and Joelle Arthur and Allison and Olivia Comer. Sisters, Marie Kidd, Karen (Gary) Ireland. Mother in law Oralee Peterson and brother in law Larry (Diana) Peterson. Mike was preceded in death by his folks, brother in law John Kidd, nephew Monte Kidd and father in law Fred Peterson Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert. Burial will follow in the Paul Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert and from 10:00 until 10:30 at the funeral home on Friday prior to the funeral. We would like to say thank you to Steve Nelson of Idaho Home Health and Hospice and Rhonda Sanders; we appreciate you more than you will ever know and to the Cancer Center of St. Lukes; Twin Falls.
