Jewell Edgar Lawson, 91, of Rupert, passed away Wednesday June 28, 2017 at Rosetta Assisted Living. He was born October 22, 1925 in Frankclay, Missouri to Luther and Dora (Fairchild) Lawson. Jewell was married to Betty Lee (Steimel) Lawson April 24, 1948 and would have been married 69 years, if not for the untimely death of Betty on January 6, 2008.

Jewell was a veteran of foreign war; he was inducted into the military April 1, 1944 and served as a combat infantryman in the South Philippines (Liberation) Luzon at the age of 19. He was presented the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the World War II Victory medal, the Purple Heart, two overseas bars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was Honorably Discharged April 28, 1946.

After the war he worked as a maintenance mechanic for the St. Joseph Lead Co. until it closed 12 years later. He then took a job as a line mechanic for a tile masking company in California where he did high rise welding. He bought a farm in Idaho and moved his family to Rupert in 1961. Through the years besides farming and maintaining a small dairy, he had worked for A&P Tea Company, Simplot's, Magic Valley Foods and drove school bus.

Jewell is survived by his children, Lynn (LaDawn) Lawson of Carlin, NV, JoEllen (Charles) Clayton of Heyburn, and Charles (Sandy) Lawson of Rupert; grandchildren, Kandi Robinson, Troy (Bobbie) Lawson, Amy (Tyler) Hull, Chance Lawson, Micki (Craig) Gardner, Cody Lawson; great grandchildren, Jacoby (Morgahn) Lawson, Tylee Hull, Austin Anthony, Chantil Anthony, Tatum Lawson, Obrenia Lawson; and great great grandchild, Skyson Lawson. He is preceded in death by one son, David Christopher Lawson.

The family wishes to thank Rosetta for giving their Dad the loving home environment that was needed during his final days and also a special thanks for Harrison's Hope Hospice for giving Dad honor, dignity and respect he so well deserved and being there for him as he took his last breath.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 6:00 until 7:00 at the Morrison Funeral Home, 188 South Hwy 24 in Rupert with Military Rites following the visitation. Urn placement will take place at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Rupert Cemetery.
