Mark Alton McCurry born on January 25, 1927 in Harwood, Oklahoma passed away peacefully March 15, 2014 in Twin Falls, Idaho surrounded by his family. Mark was the son of Watson Alton and Birdie Launa (Wikes) McCurry, and the oldest of six children. Mark joined the navy in 1944 at the young age of 17. During his time in the military he received the Aasiac Pacific Area Campaign medal, World War II Victory medal, and American Campaign Medal. He served on U.S.S Hyman, U.S.S. John Weeks, and the, U.S.S. Columbia. After returning home from the military, he married Margaret Leuzinger. To this union three children were born, Ronald, Cindy and Vickie. They were later divorced. He then married Dolly Paul and to that union, three sons were born, Ace, Matt and Zan. Dolly and Mark were later divorced. During his life, Mark had a variety of jobs that included truck driving, construction, ranching, and farming, some of which allowed Mark to travel to many places. Mark loved being outdoors farming and ranching, however his true love was sitting horseback working at the feedlot and helping at the Simper arena. At the young age of 87, or according to Mark 78, he was still working from dawn until dusk for the best boss he ever had, Bob Kunau, and driving the big tractor. We would like to believe that Mark is driving a big tractor in the sky. Mark made friends easily with his smile and whit. He enjoyed his coffee sessions with his many great friends in the Burley area. Connors café and Farmers Corner were his hot spots. All those people were his great friends and looked after him. Mark is survived by his five children, Ronald (Sherry) of Anchorage, Alaska, Cindy (Dennis) James of Eagle, Idaho, Vickie Fleming (Steve) of Coolidge, Arizona, Ace (Tammy) of Kuna, Idaho, Zan of Bend, Oregon, two brothers, one sister, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one son. Marks easy going nature and bright smile will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Morrison Payne Funeral Home, 321 East Main Street in Burley with Military Honors provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Organization.  Urn placement will take place at a later date in the Veteran’s Cemetery in Boise.
