Howard Gene Jensen, known to everyone as “Gene” died on September 19th at Cassia Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 27, 1943 in Rupert, Idaho, to Harvey Anthem Jensen & Evelyn Viola Anderson. Gene attended Elementary schools in Rupert, finally graduating from Minico High School in 1963 after a brief hiatus.
Having a deep love for his country, and following his brother’s examples, he served 9 years in the Idaho National Guard and was honorably discharged on March 15, 1973.
Gene married Ann M. Child in 1968 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In their early marriage, he served in various church callings.
At the age of 12, Gene learned to cut meat at Peoples Market in Rupert with his father. As he grew older and could take on more responsibility, he worked alongside his brother and father at Jensen Meats.
Gene also worked and gained experience at Idaho Norland, City of Burley, Dalry Electric, & Lockwood. After breaking his leg in 2 places in a shop accident at Lockwood in 1983, he decided to go into business for himself and started Gene’s Repair & Irrigation in a small, stick-built shop at his home. He loved taking care of his business and prided himself that he was always available to his customers 24/7.
Although his business came first, he was an avid hunter and loved to trap shoot and reload his own ammunition. All of his customers knew that he could talk for hours about his passion. He treasured the early mornings where he would go to the gravel pit & shoot clay targets. Bragging of his 1000 rounds shot without a miss was what he enjoyed. Because of his accuracy and talent, he was able to go to Argentina on 3 different occasions to hunt and improve his skill.
He is survived by his wife, Ann and daughter, Tammy Len (Adrian) Barendregt, of Heyburn, Idaho and one grandson Jade Barendregt and Jade’s fiancé, Cedar Bingham. He is also survived by one brother, Delwyn Jensen of Brigham City, Utah and two sisters Judy Renee Sanders of Rupert, Idaho & Darlene Gray of Pocatello, Idaho. He was proceeded in death by his son, Jeffrey Howard Jensen, both of his parents, three brothers, Leon, Deon, and Royce Sr. Jensen along with one sister Dorothy Jensen.
A viewing service will be held at the Morrison Funeral Home chapel,188 ID-24 Rupert, Idaho on Thursday, September 24th, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for friends and family. A brief gravesite service and interment will be at the Pella Cemetery in Burley, Idaho on Friday, September 25th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with military rites performed by the Mini-Cassia Veterans.
