Lawrence Sylvester Garrard, 82, of Rupert, died Friday, January, 17, 2020, at his home.
Born June, 14, 1937 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Thomas Leonard and Belva Beal Moss Garrard.
He attended school in Oakley where he graduated from Oakley High School. After high school he married his sweetheart, Audrey Jean Calkins Dec. 21, 1953, in Winnemucca, Nev.
They made their home in the Rupert area since 1967. He retired from the J.R. Simplot Co. where he worked as a foreman for over 37 years.
Lawrence loved his family and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. His family would spend every weekend at Sublet Reservoir when the kids were growing up either fishing or hiking the mountains hunting deer.
Lawrence lost his sweetheart (Audrey) in 1988. He later married Verla Mae Parsons Berry in March of 1990 and the family grew bigger with three step-children; Dewy, Tina, and Nichol. The two of them enjoyed fishing and hunting together. They had a favorite camping spot at Fair Field where they would try to camp each elk season. Mae passed in 2010.
Lawrence is survived by his children; Lola McMurtry (Pat) of Harlan, Iowa, Randy Garrard (Cindy) of Burley, Becky Rogers (Lee) of Preston, Belva Rhoades of Rupert, one brother; Frank Garrard of
Hawley, Texas, and one sister: Mary Durfee of Quincy, Washington.
Lawrence has 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Audrey; his son, Chris, daughter; Ruby and son; Thomas. wife; Verla Mae Parsons Berry Garrard and one brother Leonard Leroy (Roy) Garrard.
A celebration of Life will be held at the Oakley Cemetery, at 2:00 p.m.Saturday, May 23, 2020. Cremation services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
