Helen Margret Schoen (Caldwell), 87, of Paul, Idaho, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. Helen was born on May 4, 1939, in Blair, Nebraska, to Margaret Allen Caldwell and Jefferson (Jeff) Caldwell. In 1943, she moved with her parents to Burley, Idaho, where the family later welcomed her sister, Carol, and brother, William (Bill) Caldwell. She graduated from Burley High School and continued her education at Idaho State University.
Family was at the heart of everything Helen did. On May 17, 1964, she married Norman P. Schoen, and together they built a wonderful farm life and raised three children: Daniel (Dan), Shelly, and Angelia (Angie).
Helen worked at the Jenny Lake Lodge, Ponderosa Inn, and Project Mutual Telephone before embracing her role as a farm wife, which she treasured most.
She enjoyed a life rich with friendships, hobbies, and family traditions. Some of these included “Jeff’s Shack” parties, family reunions, and Sunday drives. One of her greatest joys was yearly camping trips to Stanley, Idaho. She loved to travel and created many cherished memories exploring numerous states, with some of her favorite adventures being shared with her sister, Carol.
Helen had a deep love for horses, and she shared that passion with her daughters. She spent many years bringing home horses and ponies, chauffeuring them to fairs, rodeos, horse shows, and parades. She also supported her son in his interests, including FFA and raising grand champion pigs. Helen and her husband retired in 1998 selling the farm, and moved closer to Paul, ID transitioning from 363 acres to 2.
A gifted artist, Helen enjoyed painting, needlepoint, scrap booking, and writing poetry, and family stories. She created colorful flower gardens that often-caused passers by to stop and admire them. Her home and outdoor spaces reflected her creativity and love of art and beloved found treasures.
Helen is survived by her husband, Norman P. Schoen; her children, Daniel (Becky) Schoen, Shelly (Robert) Cook, and Angie (Ray) Doyle/Fenstermaker; her grandchildren, Shantel Harral, Shawnee Harral, William (Brittany Theiss) Schoen, Colten Doyle, and Shelby Doyle; her sister, Carol Fowler; and her brother and sister-in-law, William (Bill) and Debra Caldwell. Great grandchildren: Lawrence and Brentin Schoen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jefferson and Margaret Caldwell, and her brother-in-law, Jerry Fowler.
Helen will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 27th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Paul Cemetery Chapel. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers/plants, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Minidoka County Senior Center.
