Thomas John Masino was born December 19, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, to Andrew Masino and Veronica Leroy. He was the second of four sons and grew up alongside his brothers, Andrew (Ginny) Masino, John Masino, and Tim (Lina) Masino.
Some of Tom’s fondest memories were made running wild through the woods of upstate New York at the family cabin, where he and his brothers spent countless days exploring, hunting, fishing, and creating adventures that became lifelong stories. Those early years fostered a deep love of the outdoors and adventure that stayed with him throughout his life.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying with him the values of honor, commitment, discipline, and perseverance that continued to guide him throughout his life. His time in the Navy shaped the strong sense of responsibility and dedication that he brought into everything he did—as a husband, father, outdoorsman, and provider for his family.
Tom met Susan Parlante, and together they were married in New York. They later moved west to pursue a life filled with opportunity and the outdoor lifestyle they loved. During this time, Tom and Susan became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, embracing a community that became an important part of their lives as they began building their family. Together they welcomed two daughters, Christina and Angelina, and created a home rooted in love, adventure, faith, and family.
Tom was a true outdoorsman. Whether he was hunting in the mountains, fishing on a quiet lake, training for and competing in triathlons, or taking to the skies after earning his pilot’s license in 2004, Tom found joy in challenge, adventure, and exploration. His love of flying became another expression of his adventurous spirit and his desire to experience the world from a different perspective. Throughout his life, he spent time in Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Florida, always seeking opportunities to explore, hunt, fish, fly, and experience the outdoors he loved so deeply.
Tom took great pride in serving his country and his community throughout his professional life. He began his career serving the public through the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a carrier/clerk, and later served as Postmaster. He eventually continued his service as a United States Customs Patrol Officer, a role he held with great pride and dedication. Through each of these roles, Tom embodied his commitment to hard work, responsibility, and providing for his family while supporting the country he loved.
Beyond his professional career, Tom’s entrepreneurial spirit and love for his heritage shined through with Masino’s Italian Ice, a family business that brought a little piece of his Italian and New York roots to the Burley, Idaho community. It became a meaningful way to teach his daughters the importance of responsibility, pride in their work, and the rewards of building something together.
Although Tom and Susan later divorced, the care and respect they shared for one another never faded. They remained friends throughout the years, continuing to support and care for one another in meaningful ways. In his final year, as Tom’s health declined, Susan was by his side, offering him unwavering compassion, and support. Their enduring friendship was a testament to the bond they shared and the family they built together.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Veronica Masino, and by his brothers, Andrew Masino and John Masino.
He is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Susan Masino; his daughters, Christina Masino and Angelina (Kirk) Domke; his brother, Tim (Lina) Masino; his seven beloved grandchildren: Ainslee, Taylor, and Colton Kidd, Alyssa Stout, Evelyn Catmull, and Parker and Juniper Domke.
He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren: Madison and Jaylee Lenkersdorfer; Ataly and Renni Goebel; and Kyzer, Ashlyn, and Mason Kidd, who brought him great pride and joy.
Tom will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of hunting, fishing, flying, fitness, and the outdoors, his unwavering determination, and the deep love he carried for his family. His greatest joy was sharing the outdoors with those he loved—whether hunting, fishing, camping, flying, or simply exploring the beauty of nature together. The traditions he cherished have become a lasting part of his family’s legacy, carried on through generations who continue to gather, camp, and create memories in the outdoors.
Tom’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the example he set, and the generations of family who continue to carry forward his love of adventure, nature, hard work, and family.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In honor of Tom’s wishes, there will not be a formal celebration of life. Flowers may also be sent to the family as a gesture of remembrance and love.
