Randy Jones

Jul. 27, 1946 - Sep. 26, 2026

Date of Service: Oct. 24, 2026

Randy Ray Jones, an 80 year old resident of Burley, passed away Sept. 26, 2026, after fighting cancer and related afflictions for 17 years.

Randy was born July 27, 1946, in Burley, Idaho, to Ross and Lorraina Mabey Jones, the second of six boys. He grew up on a farm, south of Burley, where he learned the value of work, as he shared his daily chores with his five brothers.

He received his education in Burley, attending Southwest Elementary School, Miller Elementary School, Burley Junior High, and Burley High School. He participated in athletics at BHS and played football with his brothers, Tom and Terry. They were the last undefeated Burley Bobcat football team. After graduating in 1965, Randy attended Ricks College (now BYU-IDAHO) where he played football, along-side his brother, Terry. At that time, Ricks was ranked 6th in the nation. After a year, Randy was drafted into the Army, and served in-country, attached to an artillery unit for a tour from 1967-69. He was on the front line in combat and served as a valiant soldier and warrior during the VietNam War. Randy returned from the war and went into business with his father at Ross Manufacturing, later to own the business. He worked hard building truck beds and taking pride in satisfying his many farmers’ needs.

He married Letha McCurie on Dec. 5, 2025 following a long relationship with her of 30 years. They were both devoted to each other before and after their marriage.

Randy will always be remembered for his love and devotion to Letha and her family, as well as his family, his extended family and those friends that played an important role in his life. He was always interested and supportive of those around him. He was especially supportive of his nieces and nephews as they participated in their various sports. Randy also had a very special bond with three of his brothers. Their fishing, hunting, cabin get-togethers, and trips to Twin for Randy's treatments, resulted in special memories that will be shared and remembered for a lifetime. Randy was the one at Christmas who always made and handed out the brown paper bags filled with candy, a tradition started by his grandfather, Percy Jones. He loved being active and enjoying his life, traveling and taking trips until he became limited in his abilities to do so. Last July, Letha gave him a surprise 80th birthday party where family, friends and old classmates joined to celebrate with him.

Randy is survived by his wife, Letha, and five brothers: Mike Jones, Terry Jones (Ginger), Tom Jones (Anita), Ross Jr. Jones (Jana) and KayC Jones (Valerie). He also had a special relationship with Amber Smith and Jara Hatfeld.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Lorraina Jones, and a nephew, Von Reece Jones.

Unknowingly, Randy has been our role model in teaching us how to leave this earth. He took what came his way, fought the fight, and then accepted the inevitable with grace. He will be in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Sunrise P River Ranch (Barn), 153 East 400 South in Rupert. Cremation services are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
