Max Dee Merrell passed away peacefully at Highland Estates Assisted Living Center in Burley, Idaho on January 19, 2026, at the age of 97.  He was born on April 28, 1928, in Dillon, Montana to Max and Bonnie Merrell.  Dad was the oldest of their 7 children.  He lived in Lima, Montana until joining the Navy.  After his service he returned to Lima and married Norma Bybee.  They resided in Pocatello, Idaho and raised five children: Steven, Keith, Dennis, Dee, and Melissa. He worked for the UPRR as a brakeman/conductor.  After retirement they traveled.  Later they served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Nauvoo, Il.  They then served for many years in the Idaho Falls temple.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Norma, siblings Don, Edith, and Joyce, his sons Steven and Keith.  He is survived by his sisters Carol, Anita, and Lila; children Dennis, Dee, and Melissa; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

We wish to thank Highland Estates staff and Intermountain Health & Hospice for their loving care of dad.

A Memorial Service and burial will be held at a later date in Pocatello, Idaho.
